15. Gods Of The Universe

While many conflate the two films from the Gods Of The Universe saga with Dragon Ball Super, they are in fact of the Z series.

These two films, Battle of Gods and Resurrection F, are the anime equivalent of a sugar rush. Fans were just excited to see all their heroes duke it out with a new foe one more time with all the visual fidelity and animated fluidity that a movie can offer. It even hit fans with transformation tiers above super saiyan 3, with super saiyan god, and super saiyan blue.

While the first one was a nice return to form, Beerus, the film's villain, failed to move the needle as the main antagonist. His look and dialogue didn't match the caliber of other series villains.

For the sequel, Resurrection F, the team gave fans what they really wanted, bringing back one of the most iconic villains of DBZ, Lord Frieza. They even gave him one more form to evolve into, just like old times.

Both of these movies were high on adrenaline, but low on the substance that can usually be found in a long running season of shonen anime. Ultimately though, they helped revive interest in the Dragon Ball brand which would then parlay into Dragon Ball Super.
