Every HBO Miniseries Ranked Worst To Best
27. Laurel Avenue (1993)
Laurel Avenue was an early taste of what HBO could achieve with its miniseries idea. Over three hours, audiences were given insight into a weekend in the life of an African-American family living in Minnesota.
The storytelling is powerful throughout, offering up big thoughts about racism, family and drugs, and though some of the themes are occasionally too heavy-handed, there remains a sense of daring and intelligence that allows the show to asks some pretty bold but vital questions. In fact, thinking about it, one can't help but think Laurel Avenue is more important now than ever.
