Every HBO Miniseries Ranked Worst To Best
14. Mare Of Easttown
HBO’s most recent offering in the miniseries department, Mare of Easttown finds Kate Winslet in a career-best role as troubled detective Mare Sheehan, who’s assigned to a challenging murder case whilst grappling with a series of personal grievances.
The central mystery of the series is brought vibrantly to life by some impressive character-driven world building, whilst the ensemble cast – Evan Peters, Julianne Nicholson, Guy Pearce and Jean Smart amongst them – help Winslet keep the whole thing grounded with a collection of deeply complex supporting players.
But Winslet is the star, and the main reason to stick around to the final episode. Moving between raging, empathetic and heroic, Winslet shines brighter than ever, and helps the show even when the mystery starts to feel ever-so-slightly stretched over its seven-episode run.
