8. The Devil Of Christmas

Inside No 9
BBC

Plot: A (not terribly good) 1970s Christmas-themed made-for-TV ghost story is shown, while the director (Derek Jacobi) provides an audio commentary.

The Devil of Christmas is a completely unforgettable season opener for multiple reasons.

It's a hilarious parody of the television of yesteryear, as well as an incredibly well-done recreation of it. Remember, to make television as intentionally bad as this takes quite a lot of skill. Sir Derek Jacobi's voiceover is also an absolute hoot, until... that ending.

The ending is genuinely horrific and it will linger with you for a long, long time afterward. Due to this sudden and nightmarish twist this episode might be too much for some, especially since this unexpected darkness comes at the end of an otherwise hilarious and light-hearted story, but it is still completely brilliant.

If you can handle it, chances are this'll be one of your favourite episodes.
