Every Rowan Atkinson Film & TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best
12. Bernard And The Genie
Bernard And The Genie was slightly bizarre BBC Aladdin parody which has since gained a cult following, led by Alan Cumming and Lenny Henry as the respective titular characters.
Atkinson has a largely villainous role, portraying Bernard's greedy and spiteful former boss, who is eventually foiled by the genie's powers and some neat use of time travel. It is however, a young Lenny Henry who steals the show, securing that year's Radio Times TV Comedy Performance of the Year award for his efforts.
Another entry written by Richard Curtis, who features as writer on basically about half of this list, as well as the likes of Bridget Jones's Diary, and The Vicar of Dibley, this quality project is yet another example of why the two were so keen to work together in the '80s and '90s. However, the partnership now seems to have dried up with the last joint venture being Mr. Bean's Holiday, now 14 years ago.
In a very strange development, the film would also take of in a big way in Germany, with copies of 'Bernie Und Der Weihnachtgeist' still highly sought after today.
