Every Sex Education Character Ranked Worst To Best
1. Jean Milburn
If you add a healthy dose of Gillian Anderson to any project, then you'll probably get something good out of it. That goes double for Jean Milburn, as she's bound to give you a good time whenever she steps onto the screen.
The matriarch of the Milburn household is a fantastic part of Sex Ed, as she manages to juggle so much at once. She plays up to the embarrassing mum trope, but also archetypes like the free spirit, wise advice giver, complex lover and struggling romantic. There's very little she can't do.
Thanks to this, she manages to be both incredibly funny and profoundly moving simultaneously. This is shown through her relationship with Otis, which is strained but beautiful.
It's also incredibly refreshing to see an older woman given such a great spotlight in a show that's predominantly about youth. Not only is it in keeping with the series' progressive attitude, but it also gives you an alternative perspective that keeps the show from feeling repetitive.
All of this comes together to make her the show's numero uno.
