3. There Are "Pathways To Potential Futures" For Doctor Who

Speaking of Russell's plans, and though he's said very little about what's next for Doctor Who since The Reality War aired, he has suggested, as we've been speculating, that the roadmap for Doctor Who Season 3 will need to be heavily reworked from what he originally intended.

"Doctor Who will never end!" he said in June. "There are pathways leading to potential futures. We've still got the mystery of that bright and blazing ending, 'Oh, hello.' Yes indeed, hello Billie!" 

That quote is also a solid indication that even he doesn't know what’s going on with the Billie Piper situation. "Pathways to potential futures" - aka, 'I have no idea what happens next.'

Billie Piper's recent admission that her cameo was "last-minute" also hangs a bright neon sign over the fact that Doctor Who has basically been winging it for the last few months – so when Russell says "pathways to potential futures", that's probably bang on the money.

All this is to say that the Season 3 we do get may not actually be Season 3. It might be another Season 1 all over again. It might continue the stories of the Fifteenth Doctor era, it might not. It might ignore Billie Piper altogether.

It's quite exciting in a way that there's something of a clean slate for the show's future – though it's simultaneously unacceptable that we're in this limbo state less than two years into this supposed bold, bright new era for Doctor Who.
