Bright and early this morning, Disney+ released the first episode of the much anticipated The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

We got to join Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes for the first time in what feels like forever, and to find out what life has been like for them since we last saw them in Avengers: Endgame.

Directed by Canadian filmmaker Kari Skogland, this series is set to follow the antics of the two heroes at they navigate the post-blip world, surely getting into all sorts of trouble along the way.

Still reeling off the back of WandaVision, Marvel fans are clamouring for all the hidden details and references that appear throughout the first episode. The series is a very different style to Marvel's other most recent output, going more back to its classic action roots than the detail-heavy, almost experimental approach we saw with Matt Shakman's meta Maximoff offering.

Even with its different style, however, there are still various details and references littered throughout the episode that are worth picking up on. So let's take a look at the Easter Eggs and special appearances in this first episode of The Falcon And The Winter Solider.

7. John Walker - The NEW Captain America

Right at the end of the episode we got to meet the supposed new Captain America.

Stepping out to waiting fans, he greeted us with a jammy grin and a horrible sly wink. It seems that the showrunners are instantly trying to manufacture the audience’s disdain for this newcomer - and it’s working.

Though he wasn’t actively named in the episode, we know that this is the comics’ U.S. Agent, John Walker.

We don’t know the exact angle the MCU is going to take with him yet, but what we do know is that right now he’s a nasty piece of work. It will definitely be interesting to see what he turns out to be.

In his very brief appearance you may have noticed a great little Easter Egg in his costume. On his helmet, his logo is a blend of the star and the ‘A’ - the two symbols employed by the previous Captain America.

Whilst Steve has been seen using one or the other in the comics, this is the first time we’ve seen the two blended together to give us this funky new logo. Furthermore he appears to be carrying a firearm, something seen in the comics before when Bucky undertook the Captain America title for a time.
