4. Some Legitimately Great Storylines Are Sidelined...

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is one of the most frustrating things the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever given us. Why? Because there are some legitimately great storylines in here, but they don't get enough attention, meaning that this series often feels like a waste of potential.

Sam Wilson's character arc of accepting the mantle of Captain America was excellently done, Bucky's emotional narrative mostly worked and both John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) were great new characters with moving storylines.

Additionally, the villains were very solid indeed, the plot-twist regarding the true identity of the Power Broker was surprisingly effective, the show handled its race themes very well and even in the less memorable episodes, there were some strong dialogue scenes that rarely failed to provoke thought.

For example, Sam Wilson's speech to various politicians in episode six was terrific, and not nearly as corny as it could've easily been.

Unfortunately, these interesting and well-written narrative threads were often side-lined in favour of a main, action-based story pull, which really wasn't all that compelling.
