Fear The Walking Dead: 10 Questions We’re Asking After The Pilot
5. Why Does Nobody React To Anything?
Travis, Maddie, and Nick are actually rather likeable characters, with some good acting performances, particularly from Frank Dillane who plays the drug-addled youngster, Nick. They've been given a sturdy foundation, and now it's time to explore them deeper, but it's hard when they don't actually react to things happening in front of their eyes. Look at these three people. What are they looking at? An ice-cream van driving away before they could reach it? A rain cloud during the realisation they forgot to bring an umbrella? No, Nick just killed his old friend, Calvin, in self-defence and returned to the scene to find his corpse gone. It re-animated as a zombie and attacked them. They ran him over multiple time, yet it still wouldn't die. Half of Calvin's face had been ripped off, his eyes were pale blue, and the only noises emerging were fearsome gargling sounds. And they just don't seem to be all that bothered... Also, in the hospital, there's the lack of a police investigation into a potential double murder, with repeat drug offender Nick at the heart of it all. The police are pushed aside in the hospital by his mother and never reappear, even after he flees his bed. That's just plain bad writing.
