The Flash: 10 Ways To Ensure The Series Will Be Awesome
4. Teasing Barry's Naïveté
From what we've seen, Barry Allen seems like a sweet kid but he's a little awkward around people, and he's young. Needless to say, he's very naive. That is by no means a bad thing, but part of what will help endear the audience to him and to the success of his show is the ability to acknowledge and have a little fun with that lack of experience. Since Barry's personality is so unlike Oliver's, hopefully the way he takes to crime fighting will be presented from an entirely different viewpoint. Showrunner Marc Guggenheim has stated that The Flash is going to be approaching the subject from a different attitude because he is a different character. Although he and Green Arrow exist in the same universe, they both want different things and come from different backgrounds. Since Arrow has already poked fun at Barry's young age - Oliver asking where his parents are, saying bartenders will card him - it seems to be a point of potential humor that could help the show find its feet. Some fans will have a hard time accepting someone so young and naive as such an important hero like The Flash, but if the show can acknowledge those concerns and - as we've discussed - make light of the situation, then it's sure to win audiences over.
