Game of Thrones: 10 Most Inventive Deaths

9. Karl Tanner's Knife Through The Back Of The Head

Characters dying because of some crafty swordplay is nothing new in this show, but you'll struggle to find a more disturbing - or more pleasing - death via sword in the entire show than Karl Tanner's. Tanner of course helped kill Lord Commander Mormant and Craster at Craster's Keep and led a rebellion to take the stronghold just outside Castle Black. However, with the wildling forces approaching fast and Tanner holding some sensitive information that could help them take down the wall, Jon Snow and a group from the Night's Watch go to confront him and the rest of the mutineers.

Although the battle at Craster's Keep is pretty good, Tanner's death is certainly the stand out moment. Instead of chopping off his head or pushing his blade through Tanner's spine, Snow puts his sword through the back of Tanner's neck and out through his mouth, just as he's about to kill one of Craster's daughter-wives with his dagger.

There's just something perversely delightful about watching the surprise on his face as the blade smashes through his teeth.
