6. Roose Bolton Is An Immortal Skin-Stealer

Roose Bolton is an exceptionally cold man, seemingly incapable of feelings and completely and utterly ruthless. It could just be that he’s power-hungry and willing to do whatever necessary to achieve it, but then again it could be down to what’s known as the ‘Bolt-on’ theory.

So: Roose steals and wears other people’s skin… and he’s immortal.

The Boltons are known for flaying people, so at some point they discovered the ability to wear another skin. Roose has simply been doing this to his heirs for generations, constantly refreshing himself as Lord of the Dreadfort. He legitimised his son, Ramsay, so that he can steal his identity when the time calls for it.

As for the immortal bit, it’s said that Roose may well be a White Walker of some description. As well as the coldness of his personality, his eyes are described as being like ice, and in Old Nan’s tale of the Night’s King she states that it may well have been a Bolton.

Theon notes that Roose seems to be ageless, without scars despite being in countless battles, with a stillness to him. Not much is known about his past, which Roose comments is by design. One thing that is known, though, is that he uses leeches to remove the bad blood from his body. He does this because his heart is no longer beating.
