Roose Bolton is an exceptionally cold man, seemingly incapable of feelings and completely and utterly ruthless. It could just be that he’s power-hungry and willing to do whatever necessary to achieve it, but then again it could be down to what’s known as the ‘Bolt-on’ theory.

So: Roose steals and wears other people’s skin… and he’s immortal.

The Boltons are known for flaying people, so at some point they discovered the ability to wear another skin. Theon notes that Roose seems to be ageless, without scars despite being in countless battles, with a stillness to him. Not much is known about his past, which Roose comments is by design. One thing that is known, though, is that he uses leeches to remove the bad blood from his body. He does this because his heart is no longer beating.
