Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Overrated Episodes
4. The Door (Season 6, Episode 5)
Yes, the ending to this episode was very, very sad. Hodor was a fan favourite; not too integral to the plot, but nevertheless the way he went out was one of the more heartbreaking moments in the show.
Nothing really happened in the run up to this episode, and it served as the perfect metaphor for Hodor's whole character arc - just plodding along, having no real impact until the very last moment when a whole lot happens but ultimately doesn't effect the main story.
Bran's entire time travel ability seemed only to be revealed for this soul purpose, and Hodor's whole purpose was apparently only to reveal the dangers of messing around with time travel. But this meant nothing going forward.
Bran didn't use his seer ability for anything important after this moment. Yeah, he finds out Jon is a Targaryen but so did Sam, and ultimately what difference did that revelation make? Hodor's sacrifice proved empty when in the final season it was revealed that Bran going north of the Wall had absolutely no impact on anything at all.
It's a shame because that scene was really powerful the first time around. But looking back, what was it for? A cheap tear? It kept us all watching, you could say, and that's all the writers cared about.
