Winning over Thorne is crucial to Jon's efforts in commanding total respect, and he's going about it the right way. However, things didn't end well for the cowardly, disobedient Janos Slynt. The man - who once catastrophically betrayed Ned Stark - was banished to the Wall by then-Hand of the King Tyrion Lannister who aptly said: "I'm not questioning your honour, Lord Janos... I'm denying its existence." Slynt was roundly mocked for cowering in the pantry with Gilly and her baby during the wildling invasion, and his head left his shoulders after foolishly insulting Jon's leadership.
