Game Of Thrones: 10 Reasons That Character Isn't Really Dead
6. Actors Lie In Interviews All The Time
There’s an interview with Entertainment Weekly that was published shortly after the finale which had a lot of people really worried, with Kit Harington saying that he’s definitely dead and won’t be back next season. He’s completely lying.
But really, what else is he going to say? “Yeah, I know you’re all really shocked about the season’s big climatic moment, but don’t worry, I’m coming back to life next season so it’s not a big deal”? No, Kit Harington and the showrunners want to sell this as a shocking moment, and the only way to do that is for the actor to definitively say that he’s gone for good.
If he answered these questions in any other way, it would be obvious he’s coming back. If he was asked about his fate and he said “Well, I can’t really tell you,” that would make it painfully obvious. Kit and the showrunnners decided to come down hard and say that Jon is definitely for sure dead in order to pass off the end of the season as another shocking Red Wedding style moment. Saying anything other than what Kit Harrington said would completely undercut the impact of it all.
Remember Christin Milloti’s How I Met Your Mother pre-finale interviews? Or Steve Carell saying he wouldn’t be in the last episode of The Office? Don’t let yourself get fooled again.
