7. Tyrion's Trial

This is another controversial pick, but hopefully it's justified. It might be surprising that a plot which encompassed most of an entire season, beginning with the violent death of King Joffrey, and ending with Tyrion's escape from incarceration, along with the murder of Shae and his father, features on this list. It even included the extraordinary, tragic battle between Oberyn and The Mountain. That said, there were problems here. Too many prison cell scenes which didn't push us any further towards a conclusion, while the readiness of everyone to blame Tyrion for Joffrey's murder was more than a little baffling. Of course, Cersei hates Tyrion, but she also hates the Tyrells. Why not turn her ire on them, since they had even greater motivation to do away with the King? Finally, after an entire season of waiting, Tyrion made his escape. Unfortunately it was all a bit too quick and easy. After such a big build up, perhaps more time could have been given over to this.
