Game of Thrones: 10 Storylines So Boring They'll Put You To Sleep

4. Jon Snow Beyond The Wall

The character of Jon Snow is a particularly divisive one, but he can't be helped by his repeated, prolonged quests beyond the wall. In Season 2 this was all a bit new; there was a genuine fear of the White Walkers and a sense that another appearance was just around the corner. There was interest too in the 'wildlings', and the general mystery of the forgotten land, sealed off from the rest of Westeros. Unfortunately this dissipated by Season 3. The more we learned about the 'wildlings', the less interested we were - certainly not to the extent that we could be sustained on them for consecutive seasons. Ygritte's constant refrain of 'you know nothing' was also a tad grating. Perhaps another problem is the lack of variety in scenery. Miles upon miles of snow is not the most visually interesting of scenes. This whole storyline is riddled with problems. Too much time spent with too many characters we don't really feel engaged with. Also, for a fantasy piece, the biggest strength of Game of Thrones is actually the humans and political conflict, so a land of magic and the unexplained is surprisingly less gripping than you would expect.
