Game Of Thrones: 10 Times Fans Totally Overreacted To Book Changes

3. Missandei And Grey Worm

Here's an example of book fans getting annoyed at the show adding something rather than changing or removing. The show plays up a romance between Missandei and Grey Worm, something that didn't exist at all in the books.

While plenty of show watchers enjoy this, book fans frequently complain about these scenes, mentioning characters in Dany's storyline that have been cut in favor of these two. And a lot of readers just seem to have a knee jerk reaction to it because it's a new creation.

But the relationship between these characters serves a pretty clear purpose and is a solid addition to the show. Especially with the loss of Barristan earlier this season, viewers desperately need characters on Dany's side that they truly care about.

The relationship between Missandei and Grey Worm gives some added depth to characters that could potentially just serve as glorified extras. When Grey Worm is battling the Sons of the Harpy, viewers are far more invested than they would be if all he ever did was stand around and take Dany's orders.

And this past week during the Sons of the Harpy attack, viewers are on the edge of their seat worried about the fate of Dany, Tyrion, Jorah, Daario and Missandei. They have one more character to be invested in, a product of giving Missandei some development and some added scenes of her own.
