Game Of Thrones: 10 Times Fans Totally Overreacted To Book Changes
2. The House Of The Undying
In Season 2, Dany visits the House of the Undying in Qarth in search of her kidnapped dragons. While in there, she gets a pretty interesting vision of the Iron Throne covered in snow. She also receives a vision of Khal Drogo and has a emotional conversation with him.
This was totally different in the books, with Dany seeing a whole bunch of things in there that foreshadow future events. In particular, the Red Wedding is pretty heavily foreshadowed in this sequence. Dany sees a vision of a feast full of corpses and a dead man with the head of a wolf sitting on the throne. This is exactly what happens at the Red Wedding, and it doesn't just turn out to be a symbol: the Freys literally cut Robb's head off and sow his direwolf's head on to him.
Some book fans were annoyed at the changes here, but both the show and the book version work well in their own way. Dany's vision of the destroyed, snowy throne room is a really cool image, and it seems especially relevant now with the growing White Walker threat. Plus, while the Red Wedding foreshadowing worked on the page, it would probably be difficult to depict that on screen without cluing in readers a bit too much.
