9. Ned Lied To His Family
Ned Stark was known all throughout Westeros as the most honourable man in the country, and despite doing what he always thought to be right, he still ended up damaging people's lives and losing his own. When his sister Lyanna gave birth to her and Rhaegar's son, Aegon, Ned promised to keep the baby's real identity secret.
Obviously, Ned had good reason to protect the young Targaryen's true parentage. Being Robert's best friend, he knew exactly what would happen to the child if the new King found out Aegon's true name. This was something that Stark had to relive years later when Robert demanded the murder of Daenerys Targaryen.
Passing Aegon off as his bastard son made sense, however hiding his identity from Robert and his hired knives is entirely different to lying to his loving wife and children for years.
Surely Ned could have let at least Catelyn in on the secret, to save her years of hurt, and spare Jon from the consequent mistreatment and isolation his life revolved around. Ned's wife would never have had to believe one of the only dishonourable things her husband ever did was at her expense.
