Game Of Thrones: 15 Moments That Pissed Off The Fans
2. Twincest Rape
This was the second time a scene from the book was turned into rape for the TV show, and one that proved much more problematic.
In the books, Jaime returns home following Joffrey’s death, after months away, and he and Cersei have sex next to the body of their dead son. Obviously that’s still weird, creepy and just disturbing, but at least it comes across as being consensual (albeit told from Jaime’s point-of-view).
In the show, while the director has said he was aiming for ambiguity, it very much comes across as Jaime raping Cersei, as we see her protest, and him ripping her dress, and it makes not only for an uncomfortable scene, but a case of rape that doesn’t lead to any consequences, and goes against the work the show had been doing with Jaime’s character up until - and indeed after - that point.
