Game Of Thrones: 5 Great Characters Ruined By Poor Writing

1. Jamie Lannister

Jamie Lannister’s redemption arc was brilliantly written for the first seven seasons. He went from being one of the most hated characters in the entire show to being one of the most adored. But like many things in Game of Thrones, it all went downhill in Season 8.

One of the central components of Jamie’s journey was how he compared with his sister. As the show went on, he gradually became more honourable, whereas Cersei became more villainous. Benioff and Weiss somehow missed this crucial aspect of Jamie’s character and decided to reunite him with his sister during the closing stages of Season 8.

Many fans had even speculated that Jamie would be the one to kill Cersei. As well as tying in with the prophecy Cersei heard as a child, it would have been a satisfactory conclusion to Jamie’s character arc.

Whilst Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was still terrific in Season 8 (especially in his scenes with Peter Dinklage), his character deserved a much better send-off. Fans can only hope George R.R. Martin will deliver a stronger ending for Jamie than Benioff and Weiss did.
