Game Of Thrones: 5 Spin-Offs That'd Be Just As Good
2. Robert's Rebellion
Robert's Rebellion is the spin-off that die-hard fans have been clamoring for, and it's hard to blame them. The end of the Targaryen dynasty is arguably the most important event in all of Game of Thrones lore; it not only reshaped all of Westeros, but also set the events of Game of Thrones into motion.
Although the major aspects of the war are common knowledge (Jaime killed the Mad King, Robert Baratheon took control of the realm), much of the rebellion has been kept unclear throughout Thrones. Yet as the series has progressed more and more details about Robert's Rebellion have been unveiled, and by the time Thrones ends fans will likely have a deeper understanding of the war and its consequences. A follow up series telling the story of Robert's Rebellion would be the perfect way for HBO to build off of Game of Thrones.
After gradually explaining Robert's Rebellion over the course of eight seasons, a linear telling of it the conflict ultimately enhance Game of Thrones. Witnessing the actions and decisions of young Thrones characters such as Robert Baratheon, Barristan Selmy, and Jamie Lannister would affect how audiences view them in the original series. The Tower of Joy sequence from season six of Game of Thrones has already proven this with Ned, and if that scene is at all indicative of what a Robert's Rebellion spin-off would be, we are in for a treat.
In addition to altering our perception of established Game of Thrones characters, this spin-off would be a fantastic opportunity to showcase characters that have never been seen before. The most noteworthy of all these new characters is, of course, Rhaegar Targaryen.
Rhaegar has been mentioned countless times throughout Game of Thrones. Some characters remember him as a kind and honorable man, others as a deplorable rapist. A Robert's Rebellion series would be the perfect chance to reveal who Rhaegar really was. In fact, this spin-off could do something truly unique and tell the story from Rhaegar's perspective. Watching Rhaegar struggle with his insane father, the threat of Robert Baratheon, and his love for Lyanna Stark would be an engrossing, emotional, and ultimately tragic experience. Robert's Rebellion is a story fans are aching to dive into, and a spin-off would be the perfect medium to do so.
