Game Of Thrones Prequel: Everything You Need To Know About Fire And Blood
2. The Book Received Mixed Reviews
Before anyone gets too excited, it should be noted that Fire and Blood does not review anywhere near as highly with critics as the books from A Song of Ice and Fire. Reviews were mixed at best. Most of the negative points are based on the book being a dry and boring read, which isn’t as gripping and engaging as the main series.
The Times described the book as “interminable, self-indulgent crap” with The Independent suggesting the reading experience was like “you've been assigned a mildly interesting, but often tedious, piece of homework.” These are hardly comments that will fill the public with a great deal of confidence in this source material.
However, critics aren’t always right. Book review website goodreads.com has over 22,000 user ratings for Fire and Blood, with it averaging a score of 3.9/5. Whether this stark contrast is due to the gushing of fanboys/girls, or the disinterest of critics forced to read a book that they weren’t invested in, could be anyone’s guess.
Wise fans will reserve judgement until they themselves have read the book, or at least until they see the show HBO produce. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and hopefully we won’t be disappointed. Either way, expect plenty more WhatCulture coverage.
