Game Of Thrones Season 5: Ranking All Episodes Worst To Best

6. Episode 1 - The Wars To Come

The first episode was nocking the arrow ready to release the season, and it did a good job of bringing some new issues to the fore, just like every good premiere should do. It all kicked off with Cersei's prophecy about her future children's deaths as well as her own, with 2/3 of her kids finished off in the last couple of seasons, with just Tommen remaining. Lancel's shock return, Varys and Tyrion's Mereenese adventure is teased, Daenerys' dragons are caged and restless, Baelish whisks Sansa away to lands unknown, and the Sons Of The Harpy emerge. But this all leads up to the big finale at The Wall where Mance Rayder is burned alive, only to be mercifully shot by Jon in front of the other wildlings. Best Moment: Most scenes with Mance Rayder were always cool, not just because he's got the best name in Westeros and beyond, but because he was a down-to-earth, stubborn, reasonable man doing what he had to do for his people. His final talks with Jon are brave, and made for great viewing.
