Game Of Thrones Season 7: 9 Ups And 2 Downs From 'The Queen's Justice'

3. Famous Last Words

Since her arrival back in Season 3, Diana Rigg has earned a deserved reputation as one of Game of Thrones' biggest scene-stealers. Although her appearances can be few and far between (she's appeared in 18 of the 42 episodes since being introduced), you can always count on her to deliver razor sharp wit with an acid tongue, and that was true to the very last.

The taking of Highgarden won't have been much of a fight, and shows Jaime was paying close attention to Robb Stark back in Season 1: this switcheroo from Casterly Rock to Highgarden is straight out of the Whispering Wood playbook.

The important scene is the one between Jaime and Olenna, which closes out the episode. It highlights a key difference between Cersei and Jaime, as he doesn't possess the same cruelty she does, which may eventually come between them. Though he still loves her and does as she says (and, y'know, he does murder a defenceless old woman here), this is a man who, in the first season, had no qualms about pushing a young boy out of a window, and now he wants to give Olenna a painless death (not even reacting violently when she makes her reveal). It's still murder (or attempted murder), but that's an important change.

The last word, though, fell - brilliantly - to Olenna. Even as she's about to die she remains the Queen of Thorns, giving us one last stunning delivery as she reveals the truth about Joffrey's death. You could devote a whole article just to her put-downs and one-liners, and Rigg's delivery of them, and this was one hell of a final bow.
