Game Of Thrones Theory: 10 Hints Jon Snow Will Become King In The North
5. Frey Pies, The Rat Cook, And Snow Men
One of the best parts of this theory, and indeed a great moment from A Dance with Dragons that will hopefully still manage to be worked into the show (even though we've already had the Bolton-Stark nuptials) is 'Frey Pies'. This goes that Lord Wyman Manderly, going to Winterfell as a guest for the wedding of Ramsay and fake Arya, cooked three Freys - Rhaegar, Symond, Jared - into pies, which he then serves at the wedding, even helping himself to two large slices of each, saying: "The best pie you have ever tasted, my lords. Wash it down with Arbor gold and savour every bite. I know I shall." There's some supporting evidence for this: the three Frey men disappear on the road, with Manderly simply claiming they rode ahead. Roose Bolton suspects that the fat lord had them killed, and indeed Manderly had told Davos that was his intention, even giving them gifts before they departed to signify they were no longer his guests and thus didn't have the protection that brings. More supporting evidence comes in the fact that Manderly has the singer play a song called The Rat Cook, about an evil cook who kills a prince and bakes him into a pie he then serves to a king. So yeah, Frey Pies is probably a thing - gross and awesome in equal measure - but how does it tie into Jon? Well, there's the fact this is a dangerous game to play with the Boltons and Freys, something that might not end well for Wyman. But also there's some foreshadowing here that points to him. The Rat Cook, for example, is said to have been a brother of the Night's Watch. Manderly has the singer play two other songs at the wedding: Brave Danny Flint and The Night That Ended. The former is about a girl who disguised herself as a boy to join the Night's Watch but ended up raped and murdered - this not only ties it to Jon, but also nods towards Manderly knowing Arya is a fake. The latter, meanwhile, is about the Night's Watch winning the war against the Others - much like the Northerners will win against the Boltons. There's also the fact that these songs are being played by Abel, who is Mance Rayder in disguise. Another clue at Winterfell is a little more literal. Theon sees a number of snowmen at Winterfell: Lord Manderly, Harwood Stout, the snow lady Barbery Dustin, and Whoresbane Umber. These are four of the people believed to be part of the information about Robb's will and the conspiracy, as well as parts of major Northern houses who would be very invested in having a Stark as King in the North. In other words, literally Snow's men (and woman).
