Grey's Anatomy: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

1. Season Two

Grey's Anatomy Denny and Izzie
ABC

The longest season, and the best. Fans could argue until the end of time how to rank the rest of the show's seasons, but few will argue against Grey's Anatomy's second year being its greatest.

This was the year that had it all, where all of Shonda Rhimes' skills and ambitions came into focus. The sexual tension is ramped up to eleven as Meredith deals with the arrival of Derek's estranged wife, Addison, and the emotions run at an all-time high as Cristina suffers a miscarriage, George starts a relationship with Callie, and Izzie falls in love.

The Izzie subplot is the most compelling, and arguably the most iconic of the series, following her as she falls for Jeffrey Dean Morgan's dying patient Denny. Their relationship is doomed from the start, but beautiful in its brevity and made all the more powerful by the nerve-wracking performance of Katherine Heigl.

Balancing Meredith's relationship and professional woes with a real, authentic sense of loss, season two is the medical drama at its absolute best. From Denny's final fate to the friendship of George and Bailey, from the introduction of Addison Montgomery to its horribly tense bomb episode, this is far and away Grey's Anatomy's finest chapter.
