Hawkeye: Every Main Character Ranked Worst To Best
5. Jack Duquesne
You just HAVE to feel sorry for Jack Duquesne. For the entire series he was painted as the bad guy, when in reality he was genuinely just an innocent man who had a deep interest and love for swords, and sincerely wanted to make Eleanor and Kate happy.
On the first watch of Hawkeye, Tony Dalton played Jack in such a way that everything he did had a certain sinister feel to it. How he spoke of making risotto by agitating it, letting Kate win at fencing, and threatening Clint with a sword all made him seem very suspicious, but on a second viewing they were all perfectly reasonable.
Okay, it may have been a bit of a dick move to flaunt that he would be getting to spend his inheritance from Armand soon, while stealing the Ronin sword and even attending the black market auction in the first place were a bit sketchy, but there was much worse going on in Hawkeye than that.
Arguably Jack’s highlight of the series was the pure joy in his face when he got to use his sword against the Tracksuit Mafia. He was clearly having the time of his life, and while it’s unlikely he’ll ever join the Avengers like the Swordsman did in the comics, this was fun while it lasted. And of course, he will always be remembered for giving the world ‘absence makes the heart grow older’.
