His Dark Materials: Where You Recognise The Cast From
14. Mat Fraser - Raymond Van Geritt
Mat Fraser has the most distinctive look of all the actors in the show, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's instantly placeable.
As a child of thalidomide (cue Billy Idol), Fraser's disability has left him with severely shortened arms. As you might expect, this has restricted the amount of roles available to him, but throughout his career Fraser has leant into this and gleaned a good deal of work.
Best known as one of the Freaks in American Horror Story: Freak Show, Fraser brought some real depth and heart to the role; he was clearly cast for more than just his disability.
He's also starred in the hilariously titled Unarmed But Dangerous, where he plays a martial artist child of thalidomide. As well as this, he performed at the Paralympic closing ceremony in 2012 (he's a former professional drummer), and invented the controversial term 'spacking up' to describe non disabled actors playing disabled characters.
On stage, he's done everything from dance to Shakespeare to prop horror.
Quite the colourful career.
