What To Expect From IT: Welcome To Derry

Following the success of 2017's IT and 2019's IT Chapter Two, the murky world of Derry and the sinister Pennywise the Dancing Clown are once again back in the spotlight with IT: Welcome to Derry.

From the director of those IT movies, Andy Muschietti, and the films' producers, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, with Brad Caleb Kane serving as showrunner, Welcome to Derry premieres on Sunday, 26 October, and this prequel series takes the action back to the 1960s. To be precise, that action opens up in 1962, as a family moves to Derry, Maine at the same time that a young boy disappears, as the town's dirty little secrets start to come to the fore and its history of missing children is put in the spotlight.

Cast-wise, Taylour Paige (Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F), Jovan Adepo (Watchmen), newcomer Blake Cameron James, and Chris Chalk (Gotham) take centre-stage. Interestingly, Paige, Adepo, and James are playing the Hanlon family, with young Blake's Will Hanlon being the father of Mike Hanlon from the IT movies. Likewise, Chris Chalk is playing the role of another Stephen King favourite: that being Dick Hallorann of The Shining fame.

Of course, bringing added appeal to IT: Welcome to Derry is Bill Skarsgard, who returns to the Pennywise role he brought such intensity and terror to for Andy Muschietti's two IT movies, with Skarsgard also serving as a producer on Welcome to Derry, too.

The official synopsis for IT: Welcome to Derry reads:

Set in the world of Stephen King’s “IT” universe, IT: Welcome to Derry is based on King’s “IT” novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films “IT” and “IT Chapter Two.”
