7. "Football Friends!"

The three seasons of the Inbetweeners yielded so many phrases and slogans, (more of which are on this list) that the show almost has its own vocabulary. One of my favourite Inbetweeners phrases is "Football Friends!", which comes about in the aforementioned series 1 episode "Will Gets A Girlfriend" as Jay is teased mercilessly by the rest of the gang for having a friend outside the main group. The mocking is only exasperated when it is revealed Jay has his own "goodbye gesture" of two thumbs up when the friend leaves the room, prompting the famous "oooh friend, friend, aww friend, friend, football friend!" jibes. Neil and Simon further embarrass Simon in front of his new friend with yet more catcalling, until finally Jay snaps and completely loses the plot, jumping atop his new friend's car, setting off the alarm and imitating Neil and Simon's jeers of "ooh friend! friend! I'm not your f****** friend, alright!" as the stunned car owner rushes out of the house to see what's going on.
