It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: 10 Most Emotional Moments
3. Dennis' Valentine's Gift (The Gang Tends Bar)
If there's one person in the show you never thought you'd see sentiment from, it's Dennis Reynolds. This borderline sociopathic monster is a calculating person who seems to have no feelings whatsoever. Still, that's precisely what makes this moment so emotional.
"The Gang Tends Bar" is a silly Valentine's Special, which sees Dennis get worked up as he wants to focus on the business, but the others are fixated on the holiday. Plus, Mac won't shut up about a crate he found in the alleyway.
In the climax of the episode, Dennis reveals that he hates Valentine's Day because they never got him anything, and it hurts. Then, right on cue, Mac wheels the crate in and reveals that there's an RPG inside. A gift for Dennis, which he has always wanted.
It's an abnormally sweet moment for the nihilistic show, and while most people wouldn't get this emotional over an RPG, it's a perfect Dennis Reynolds gift. Part of what makes it work so well is that they feed the idea of it throughout, as Mac keeps trying to move Dennis to the crate and the others focus on Valentine's Day. This makes it feel like a massive pay-off, especially as we're so not used to seeing Dennis have feelings.
The moment is even topped off by a memorial to Bob Latiano, the father of Jill Latiano - Glenn Howerton's wife.
