It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best (So Far)

12. Season Twelve

Its Always Sunny
FX

Season twelve has some serious Sunny gems, including the one-location "Hero or Hate Crime", the documentary spoof "Making Dennis Reynolds a Murderer", and the iconic "The Gang Goes to the Water Park." Hero or Hate Crime features Mac officially coming out as gay for the first time, a huge deal considering his true sexual orientation had been teased for the last ten seasons.

Despite the fantastic character development and frequent hilarity offered up by the aforementioned episodes, there are some of the show's most underwhelming episodes to consider, too. "A Cricket's Tale" switches focus to Cricket, a character who works much better as a small supporting character rather than a lead in his own story. "The Gang Turns Black", meanwhile, is funny...but perhaps a bit too on the nose.

Plus, the twist that Dennis has a kid and wants to spend time with his family, whilst an interesting narrative decision, came too out of nowhere to feel organic. Season twelve is propped up by some great episodes, but is unfortunately surrounded by too many twists and filler episodes to rank any higher than this.
