There could have been a lot of temptation by the show-runners to simply bury their heads and ignore the accusations of bias for the sake of drama and tunnel-vision that were levelled at the first season, but to their credit they are acknowledged early in the second season.

They don't necessarily excuse the bias, but the decision to include references to the DNA that was found under the hood latch of Halbach's car (a notable absence from season one) was a smart move that showed a sensitivity to the concerns. It comes as part of a wider reflection on the impact of the show, which is a little self-serving, but since the documentary has very much formed a major part of the conversation on the case, it's right that it was dealt with.
