Marvel's Daredevil: 10 Reasons It's The Best Comic Book Show Ever
5. The Writing Is Layered And Ambitious
The show's writing is impeccable, with showrunner Steven S. DeKnight and creator Drew Goddard taking full advantage of the platform afforded them by Netflix' business model of releasing all 13 episodes of the series at once.
All the other comic book shows that have come before have been traditionally shown on TV, with one episode per week over their season. In the cases of the likes of The Flash and Arrow, they have 20+ episodes per season and so their series' run for over seven months.
Daredevil is an entirely different kettle of fish, and the creators spin this to their advantage in the writing. The show rarely settles into a 'case of the week' formula, like many serialised shows utilise, because the audience has access to all episodes immediately. Plot threads, characters and situations are returned to throughout the series' run.
If something isn't resolved by an episode's end, chances are it will factor in again in an important way later on, which rewards viewers paying close attention.
The other shows can operate like this to an extent, but are also much more bound to try and make each episode stand on it's own as well. This can be tough for a writing staff and also leads to 'filler' episodes, which Daredevil has none of. Everything matters in this world and it's a wonderful thing.
