Marvel and Netflix, to the surprise of no one, have done it again.

The third season of television produced by the pair, and the second of Daredevil, has all the hallmarks of quality we've come to expect in the past 12 months. It's dark, it's gritty, and it's a super-violent portrayal of these 'heroes' and how they face up to the challenges facing them, both in their costumed lives and day-clothes ones.

It goes beyond simple superhero, defeat-the-bad-guy story and delves deep into the psyche, dealing with serious issues in a way we're not often accustomed to seeing in comic-book adaptations.

Daredevil Season 2 is a prime example of this, using the Punisher and Elektra to paint a contrast with Daredevil and his way of doing things, while his personal life spirals away from him, making this year a mental challenge as much as a physical one. And boy, does it get physical.

As we should expect by now, this is a show that isn't afraid to shock. We may have thought we saw it all in Season 1, from a guy ramming his own head onto a spike to Fisk bashing someone's skull in with a car door, but the stakes were raised even higher here. With violence, bloodshed, and some weird and random scenes as well, this was a season of TV as rich in WTF moments as it was intense-action and character-driven drama, and these are the best of them.

Daredevil Season 2 gets back into the swing of things pretty swiftly, with ol' Horn-head chasing some bad guys through Hell's Kitchen. So far, fairly standard stuff, but it's when he actually apprehends the criminal things get a little weird.

Tracking him through a restaurant kitchen, Daredevil brings his man down, and quickly leaves to move onto the next one. In a pretty humorous move, the chefs standing by and watching decide to get in on the action, beating the guy with the pots and pans in their hands. The name Hell's Kitchen just got taken to its most literal meaning.
