At least three of The Gifted's actors played minor television roles where they weren't able to showcase their full potential. In this series, however, Natalie Alyn Lind, Blair Redford, and Emma Dumont take center stage and are finally able to stretch themselves by tackling heavy-duty dramatic parts.

Lind gained notoriety as Adam's girlfriend Dana in The Goldbergs and on Gotham as Bruce's possible love interest Silver St. Cloud. She steps into lead territory as The Gifted's Lauren, the main family's daughter who can manipulate air and matter. The character of Lauren puts Lind in the forefront after two girlfriend roles that didn't allow audiences to witness any emotional growth. Lind receives several opportunities to exhibit her emotional range as a mutant teenager on the run from the government.

Redford was in the same love-interest trap despite being given more to do in The Lying Game and Satisfaction. He took a backseat to female leads during his career in soap operas and cable dramas. As Thunderbird, one of the most unexplored characters in the franchise, he'll be able to emerge as a leading man in The Gifted.

Dumont's Melanie had little romance in her life though she always had a witty retort in the ballet dramedy Bunheads. In the shadow of three other dancers, many fans complained that Melanie wasn't getting any attention. Now, as The Gifted's Polaris, Dumont can be a superheroine who isn't relegated to the backdrop.

These former background actors have the ability to manipulate their Gifted airtime to their advantage.
