Collaborators Stan Lee and Bryan Singer are hoping the third time might be the charm. The Gifted is Lee's third cameo in a Singer project, following appearances in X-Men and X-Men: Apocalypse.

The stars aligned when Stan Lee was in Dallas at the same time as production and filmed a cameo in the premiere, an appearance that surprised the whole cast. Singer posted a black and white snapshot of Lee outside a Dallas bar while reminiscing about their former interactions. While it's not surprising to see Lee in another MCU version of his comic books, this cameo's an amusing nod to his legacy in a show that strives not to mention many of his most famous X-Men by name. Lee's name, on the other hand, brings much clout to the series no matter what mutants are along for the ride.

While his role in the Gifted remains mysterious, Lee's been photographed with several cast members ahead of its premiere. His endorsement of the series should put worried fans at ease. After his enthusiastic drop-in with the cast at San Diego Comic-Con, it's obvious that he stands behind the rendition that sheds new light on the mythology surrounding his mutants.

Stan Lee's small role carries big implications and will entice viewers to watch the pilot with laser-like focus.
