How I Met Your Mother: 10 Episodes Proving It's Past Its Best

8. No Pressure

It's like the writers decided to make everyone in the gang (save maybe Robin) the worst possible and neurotic human beings on the face of this planet. Seinfeld had them, Friends had them, and Two and a Half Men... well, that one's pretty obvious. HIMYM, on the other hand, had enough neurosis in Barney to go around, but this episode even succeeded in turning goody-two-shoes Marshall into a pretty horrible person. Robin's engagement with Kevin fell apart because of her infertility, and while trying to comfort her Ted drops the biggest of all five year old bombshells: he still loves her. Yeah, way to go jerk. Robin, in her grief and confusion, makes out with Ted before leaving for Russia for a week with *gulp* Patrice. Upon her return, she leaves the love unrequited and moves out. Bad move Ted, but nothing could possibly compare to Marshall and Lily, who apparently have been betting each other on how Ted and Robin will turn out among other long term life events a la Duke Brothers in Trading Places times five. Literally, it's a $5 bet instead of a $1 bet. Barney, on the other hand, is just Barney, and another bet that exists is that Barney will never... wait for it... find Marshall and Lily's sex tape. A hilarious shoulder angel/devil-esque back and forth between Lily and Marshall to Barney once he finds the tape makes him do exactly what I wanted to do when I watched every single character in this show deteriorate over the course of 22 minutes...
