How I Met Your Mother: Barney's 10 Most Brilliant Plays

9. My Penis Grants Wishes

In "The Playbook" (S5E8), we're first introduced to the Playbook. A number of plays are mentioned but shown only briefly, including (but not limited to) The Mrs. Stinsfire, The "He's Not Coming," and The "My Penis Grants Wishes." The play involves Barney dressing up as a genie and telling a girl that his penis grants wishes if it's rubbed hard enough. What's supposed to happen next is that the furniture comes to life and dances with him. Marshall says that the play is not very well thought-out and that "it's no Mrs. Stinsfire." We never actually see the play in its entirety or how Barney revised it, however we do later find out that it works. In "How Your Mother Met Me (Season 9 Episode 16), the Mother's friend, Kelly, talks about how rough it is being single. She says, "I once met a guy who said his penis grants wishes." When the Mother laughs and asks who would fall for that, Kelly tries to cover up the fact that the play did work on her. The mystery of how Barney got it to work alone makes it worthy of inclusion.
