4. "Fears" - Season 1, Episode 16
... in which he faces his own fear to save his son and his son's truck One of my favorite episodes, "Fears" delves into several family members facing their fears (duh). Haley is up for her driver's test, which she has already failed twice, which sends the Dunphy ladies out of the house for the day. Phil and Luke, curious after a comment made by an exterminator who had recently been in their crawl space, prepare to look under the house for treasure. While Phil knows there isn't real gold or jewels underneath the house, he still believes there could be something fantastic that he and his son could share an adventure in rescuing. However, Phil is afraid of actually going into the crawl space. I think it's the creepy crawlers, though it isn't ever specified. Rather than go in themselves, Phil attaches a video camera to one of Luke's toy trucks and sends it in for reconnaissance, which Luke doesn't think is a good idea because it is his favorite truck. They go ahead and the truck, inevitably, gets stuck so Luke goes in after it. Luke then, inevitably, gets stuck himself and Phil must go in after him. And he does, proving once and for all that parents will do whatever it takes to keep their children safe.
