Obi-Wan Kenobi Part I & II Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs

1. It's A VERY Strong Start

Overall, the best thing that can be said about Obi-Wan Kenobi's first two episodes is that they form a near-perfect start to a show that, should it maintain or even surpass this quality going forward, could go down as the finest live-action Star Wars show.

Creating a rich and vibrant world in which the Empire rules and the Jedi are no more, the series has already tapped into the complexities of a galaxy ruined by war, and has introduced half a dozens compelling characters with great stories to tell in the process.

It's easy to see these episodes as mere set-up for bigger things to come, but it's hard to argue with what they achieve, despite some brief flaws, in their own right. It's complex, mature, and adventurous in a way that manages to pay homage to the original trilogy, the prequels, and even The Clone Wars all at once.

With McGregor on top form, Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader, and new villains and anti-heroes lurking in every shadow, Obi-Wan Kenobi is off to an astonishingly good start. Hopefully things get even better from here.
