Peaky Blinders: Each Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Polly Gray

Peaky Blinders
BBC

The matriarch of the Shelby family and closest advisor to Tommy, Polly Gray is an uncompromising figure who easily takes control of any situation she's in. Having looked after the Shelby siblings since they were young, Polly is really the only character that every member of the family is close to.

Smart and strong-willed, Polly looked after the family business while the older brothers were in World War I and she has no reservations with any of the illegal dealings her family does. Incredibly loyal and dedicated to her family, Polly will do anything to protect the ones she loves, even if she struggles to choose who to protect when faced with a situation that pits Michael and Tommy against each other.

Having gypsy blood, she believes herself to have the Second Sight, allowing her to see spirits and the future in her dreams, giving the show a somewhat supernatural dimension. Polly can also be incredibly deadly, killing Inspector Campbell in cold blood as vengeance for him raping her. When Polly threatens someone, you know she means it.

Polly is also a notable character for her struggles with mental health and depression. She is unlucky in love, having lost her most recent fiancé Aberama Gold in the Season Five finale. Polly has it rough, but she always represents a rock to her family and is one of the best characters on the show.
