Could Peter Jackson Really Direct Doctor Who?

But Could He Direct A Special?

More than just its travelling nature, another thing which separates Doctor Who from traditional shows like C.S.I. and Game Of Thrones is that not all episodes are regular; it is not uncommon for the show to throw in various specials along with the standard seasons. Planet Of The Dead was just one of a small number of specials broadcast in lieu of a full compliment of 2009 episodes, specials which were produced ostensibly to give more preparation time to the new incoming production team, and there doesn't seem to be any news of when that might happen again. Later on season seven was split over two years to allow extra production time for the 50th Anniversary, but it goes without saying that everyone would want Jackson to work on the show before any possible 60th Anniversary plans were underway. Even without any anniversaries or even dedicated specials though, we still get one each year thanks to the 25th December. Although it would tie down production to a specific time of year rather than having the flexibility of either a spring or autumn broadcast, in many ways a Christmas Special would be a great compromise for a Peter Jackson episode. It's special enough (the clue's in the title) that it would make the most of Jackson's abilities as a director, and would allow extra time outside of the regular season to accommodate work in New Zealand. On top of all this, it has often been the Christmas specials that have featured other big names, including Kylie Minogue, Timothy Dalton, Michael Gambon and Ian McKellen. A reappearance of the Roboform Santas could also make the most of Jackson's proclivity for cameoing in his productions.
