10 Greatest Punisher Moments From Daredevil: Season 2

4. An Itchy Trigger Finger

Jon Bernthal Punisher Daredevil
Netflix

The Punisher has punished all those involved with the death of his family. He has killed The Blacksmith, the drug baron who just so happened to be his former general. Technically, he has gained all the revenge that he could and Frank Castle can finally feel the satisfaction of killing those who took away his family.

Despite Karen warning him that murdering the Blacksmith would mean that they are finished as friends, Frank puts a bullet in his head without hesitation. His war is over.

But Frank has always wanted war; that's the entire premise of his character; he is a man who kills either because he enjoys it or because he feels the need to. There's a hunger inside him that cannot be suppressed.  A conundrum that those invested in the character are left to decide for themselves.

When Frank finds the Blacksmith's rather impressive armory, he does something so subtle that reflects the silent scream in his mind to keep killing, keep moving, keep punishing. His finger twitches. He knows that it was never about revenge for his family. It was about the war. Now he has the means to continue that endless cycle of violence.

That's the true beauty of this character; his perceived simplicity makes him all the more complicated.
