Ranking All 25 The Simpsons Season Finales

15. Dangers On A Train

Who Shot Mr Burns
Fox

Season: 24

It's not the appearance of Seth MacFarlane on The Simpsons that makes Dangers On A Train a great Simpsons episode. No, the creator of Family Guy - now in its own slump, as The Simpsons was during its mid to late teen years - was far from the highlight here.

In reality, the season finale of season twenty-four wasn't fantastic for the Family Guy guy but for a great sub plot involving Homer showing just how far he will go to prove his love for Marge (the main plot has Marge falling for MacFarlane's character, reminiscent of The Last Temptation Of Homer.

Here, Homer goes out of his way to re-build her a life sized dream train (from the miniature railroad they loved in their early years) for their anniversary. It's just the sort of thing Homer would do - take on a ridiculously complex project to prove his love when something easier would have sufficed.

That sweet touch makes the rather silly main plot (Marge accidentally browses to "Sassy Madison" and meets the MacFarlane character) much easier to digest. All the Homer stuff in this one is gold. As for Seth, he should probably stick to his own show.
