Riverdale: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best

20. Chic

Betty's search for her long-lost brother eventually resulted in her crossing paths with the person who convinced her that he was Charles. A tortured soul with demons that he refused to reveal, Chic had the entire Cooper family fooled (with the exception of Hal who never believed him to be Charles) but it didn't take long for Betty to deduce that something was off about him.

It's hard to sum up Chic's time on the show because so much of it was filled with ambiguity. Yes, parts of his attempts to get one over on Betty got incredibly repetitive (as did Alice's refusal to see him for who he was) but we'll chalk that all that up to the writers intentionally portraying him like that.

Why Riverdale's two most intrepid reporters weren't asking more questions about him is baffling, but for the most part, Chic succeeded as an unnerving red herring in the search for Charles. Though the fact that the culmination of the year-long "is he dead or not?" question merely resulted in him being revealed as a pawn Gargoyle King in Penelope Blossom's scheme was a disappointment, Chic had his moments over the course of his time on the show and remained one of the only remotely consistent things about Season 2.

More than anything though, Hart Denton did a fantastic job bringing this chilling character to life.
