Schitt's Creek: 10 Best Standalone Episodes

4. Family Dinner - S2E2

Sometimes, a single scene can make an entire episode a classic. A lot happens in season two's Family Dinner. Johnny Rose gets the runaround from Bob whilst looking for appropriate premises to start his new business practice; Alexis grapples with her relationship with a needy Ted and her feelings for the mysterious Mutt... But everyone remembers this episode for one thing: "Fold in the cheese."

Moira tries to prove her nurturing capabilities when her children accuse her of passing off the nanny's chicken enchilada recipe as her own, and so sets out to prove them wrong. We may not be 100% on whose memory is right, although all of the evidence does suggest that Moira may have exaggerated her culinary abilities somewhat.

Anyone who did Home Economics recognises what "folding" entails, and even someone completely clueless could have guessed what to do with a simmering bechemel and a bowl of grated cheese. David and Moira, unfortunately, are not just anyone, and the resultant exchange has since become Schitt's Creek's most infamous scene.

Parents are so desperate to maintain that their knowledge is all encompassing that they'll end up like Moira: unable to admit that she has no idea what to do with the cheese, and all too ready to make it David's problem.
